Snowy Morning in Bar Harbor

My longest winter ride to date

Winter ride from Portsmouth NH to Bar Harbor ME. The trip was just over 200 miles, I choose the coastal route of Rt 1 over the highway. Leaving around 1600 I was able to get just under an hour of riding in prior to sunset. A quick stop in Portland to layer up, and I was good to brave the 25 degree weather. I was very comfortable through the trip, my feet did get cold between Bucksport and Ellsworth. I met up with my friend Alice in Ellsworth at Finn's pub where she works. After a few pints, we headed to Bar Harbor for the night. Today I will take back roads following the water to Castine.

The Ural did great during the ride, she is pulling a bit to starboard, I predict it's just a matter of adjusting the toe in/out of the sidecar. The hack (sidecar) saved my ass a few times last night, black ice everywhere. I can't count how many times I would have bit the dust on two wheels. I was able to comfortably cruise at 65/mph using 75% throttle, this is mostly due to getting the correct carburetor jets installed. This will be my last run with conventional oil, sometime around 9,500 km I will switch to synthetic engine oil.

Pictures from the October 8th SOT ride

October 8th, first official Scythe of Time ride!

October 8th, first official Scythe of Time ride!

We really lucked out with the weather this day. Light jacket was warm at stop lights. I don't typically take passengers, but my sister Laura is always an exception. We rode from Portsmouth to Grease Monkey Motorcycles in Dover, NH. After meeting the President and Sargent at Arms we continued to Northwood, NH. We met up with a few more of the Brethren and took a nice 1-2 hour back roads ride to Goody Coles, an excellent BBQ joint!
It's always fun to take the Triumph out for a backroads ride.
A little background, Scythe of Time is the newly formed (this fall 2011) Chapter of the NH Widows Sons. Our chapter focuses on riding and Masonry. Most of the members ride year long as best they can and do a majority of the maintenance on their bikes themselves. The best part is the officers ride together almost everyday.
President :Sean
VP: Jr
Sergeant at Arms : Warren
Treasurer : Noah (me)
Secretary: Jessie

I will do more write ups in the future about the Widows Sons and Scythe of Time through out the winter.

I'm not riding everyday, no more excuses and skipped posts!

I'm not riding everyday, no more excuses and skipped posts!

The lack of updates to my site is unacceptable. Over the next few weeks I will try to post at least once a day (maybe two). This should help to catch everyone up on the fall riding that I did.
Many of you know I had a very cold ride to Houston, TX in early December. I got the Ural back from the shop and I am glad to say that asides from to and from work, the only other time I drove my truck was to get an inspection sticker ( 8 months past due).
After I have caught everyone up on the rides this fall and the first snow ride in the Ural, I will attempt to do a few gear reviews.
I will continue to add pictures and maybe a few movies as well. Again sorry for the gap in the site, I will try and keep it updated on a regular basis.
